Your LinkedIn Profile: Top 5 Do’s
If you’re looking to set-up or improve your LinkedIn profile, here are my Top 5 Do’s to keep in mind.
‘DO’ USE A PROFESSIONAL PROFILE PICTURE
When people search your name in a search engine, your LinkedIn profile is often returned high in the search results. Profiles with photos are 5 – 10 times more likely to be viewed than those without. So don’t be a faceless entity when potential Hiring Managers come looking … because they will come looking.
‘DO’ INCLUDE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION
The Contact Information section of your LinkedIn profile is only visible to your first-degree network of connections. If a second-degree connection, third-degree connection, group connection, someone outside of your network, or someone not on LinkedIn views your profile, they will not see your contact information.
If you wish to be more overt about your Job Search, you may wish to take a look at the following short YouTube clip (http://bit.ly/2nRcWeA)
‘DO’ TURN OFF YOUR UPDATE NOTIFICATIONS
Before performing any major updates to your profile, make sure your activity update notifications are turned off because you don’t want to inundate your network with change notifications! (http://bit.ly/2oseSMi)
‘DO’ TURN OFF VIEWERS OF THIS PROFILE ALSO VIEWED
If you are actively seeking a new career opportunity, then you want Hiring Managers to focus on your profile and no-one else, so make sure you turn off “Viewers of this Profile also viewed” (http://bit.ly/2nNI25b)
‘DO’ ADD INTERESTS
The Additional Information section of your profile is where you can detail your interests. Don’t skip this area of your profile. By providing some insight as to who you are as a person, your business connections may feel a stronger connection to you, which may spur more business and career opportunities (http://bit.ly/2osF7lg)
AND FINALLY …..
I will leave you with an interesting TED Talk by Scott Dinsmore called “How to find and do work you love” (http://bit.ly/1hEuiBL) which is ranked among the Top Ted Talks on careers.
